Teneo Storage Furniture Photos
Teneo storage furniture brings people together and brings a space together. Beyond managing the diverse objects that fuel team creativity, Teneo helps people--from two to a roomful--easily engage with others and the space they inhabit. While each Teneo product is unique, they all share features that unite them. In their harmony with each other and their environments, Teneo pieces are meant to be seen just as much as they are designed to be an active part of work life.

Group Storage Solutions
Teneo products are ideal for furnishing group spaces, from conference rooms to meeting areas to project spaces to lounges--wherever people team up, connect, and collaborate. Teneo also works well in individual and community spaces.

Engaging
Working with you. The variety of Teneo products invites people to connect, gather, meet, present, and host, as well as hold and display the objects of work.

Easy to use. All products have the same design elements and work the same way so interaction with Teneo is intuitive.

Unique up front. On doors and drawers, the curved front creates a design element that visually distinguishes Teneo.

Giving
Systemic approach. The three basic elements of Teneo--rings for structure, utility for function, and cladding for enclosure--are assembled in many different combinations to give a large, diverse array of adaptable and multifunctional products.

Comprehensive line. Products include islands, side-by-side islands, presentation units, wall units, individual storage, and surfaces.

Scalable. There are four ring sizes (24, 34, 60, and 70 inches high) so you can scale the product to give you the appropriate height; you can also scale the degree of enclosure.

Material choices. Teneo is a great canvas for color and can be customized to express the character you want; the appointment of materials can take Teneo from sophisticated and rich to bold and spirited, as well as many different expressions in between.

Harmonious
Cohesive design. Since all products share the same design elements, they share a consistent look; Teneo creates a unified aesthetic throughout a work environment.

Visual continuity. The purposeful application of materials maintains continuity across a range of interiors and architecture, which can add a calming effect in an environment.

Furniture quality. Teneo is meant to be used in the open and seen from all angles.

Complementary pulls: To complement Teneo, Meridian filing and storage offers a Teneo pull, and Tu filing and storage offers the T-pull.

Comprehensive choice. Herman Miller's lines of filing and storage--Teneo storage furniture, Meridian filing and storage, and Tu filing and storage--provide complete and coordinated choices. Each has its own specialty: Teneo in group space, Meridian in community space, and Tu in individual space.

Sustainable Design
Strict standards. Teneo products adhere to the McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (MBDC) Cradle to Cradle Design Protocol.

Certified. It is certified to MBDC Cradle to Cradle Silver. Teneo is GREENGUARD certified and can contribute to LEED certification.
Design Story

"The starting point of Teneo," say designers Ayse Birsel and Bibi Seck, "was challenging the storage archetype and saying, well, why can't we do this any other way?" They answered their question by looking at storage from a whole new perspective and creating a new paradigm for storage.

After examining storage needs for today's complex workplaces, they felt that the traditional storage archetype--the metal box--is a good solution, but limited in application. They believed a new archetype could better respond to today's needs, especially in group spaces where people meet and collaborate.

The designers began the design process by deconstructing storage. They literally took apart a metal box to identify its elements: what holds it upright; how it organizes, contains, and secures its contents; and what provides enclosure.

To reconstruct storage into something more versatile, Ayse and Bibi broke it down into three distinct parts: structure, utility, and cladding. The structure is the same for all pieces; utility could be shelves, drawers, and doors; and the cladding--the skin--could be any number of materials, from metal and veneer to cork and felt.

When they reassembled the elements, they took a systemic approach. The structure, utility, and cladding elements can be combined in many ways to create numerous products that put the user at the heart of the design.

The key design breakthrough was using exposed rings for structure instead of a metal case. The rings provide a flexible, strong, and durable structure that allows a large variety of products. Rings are made of one, strong continuous piece of anodized aluminum for a clean look on all products.
